Summer is here—and it will be over before we know it.
Remember last year? We had a couple adventures, spent a few days chilling in the AC, blinked, and summer was over. Where did all the time go? And what did we have to show for it? We’d barely flipped the burgers and they started putting out the Halloween decorations.
Not this year. This year, we’re optimizing summer for next level gearheads.

How would you like to roll into fall with a head full of awesome memories, a bunch of inspired project ideas for winter—and supercharged confidence to make them happen?
We’ve been entertaining you for years with stories of gearheads like us. Now we want to deliver on our promise to helping gearheads build high performance machines and lives.
You’re invited to get to the next level with us.
We’ve come up with almost 50 different activities designed to get you more out of your summer. And we’ve turned them into a sort of online scavenger hunt that runs all summer long. Gearheads like us will be playing from all over the world.
By the time fall comes around…
- You’ll be organized.
- You’ll have secret plans.
- You’ll be someone’s hero.
- You’ll walk on the wild side.
- You’ll experience adventure.
- You’ll be a next level gearhead.
- You’ll meet other next level gearheads.
You won’t find this stuff in the magazine, either!
These ideas are all behind the curtain—in the earliest stages of GBXM|university.
As a next level gearhead, you’ll get special access to GBXM staff for additional information and help making things happen. We’ve also got a special—private—forum setup for players to get to know and help each other along.

We won’t be publishing any details, but we’re looking forward to reporting on our next level gearheads’ progress over the summer—in writing AND on The Gearhead Project podcast. If you’re doing this stuff with us, you’re exactly the gearhead we’re after and we’re going to put the full force of Gearbox Magazine behind helping you succeed with your summer projects.
There will be prizes and trophies for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place, and more. And, on top of that, we’ve designed this with plenty of opportunities for our first year players to get their names forever baked into the game if they want. How’s that for legacy?
