We’re pretty much a 2-man operation here at Gearbox (unless you’d like to join us, of course). And the last month has been crazy for both of us. Dennis has been trying to buy a house in The Netherlands, and I’ve been trying to plan out the most epic gearhead adventure I’ve ever had. We’ve come up a little short on new stories, but wanted to let you know we’re still in this for the long haul and we appreciate your continuing to stop by.
Here’s a quick look at some of the stories we’ve got in the works right now…
Our friend Kevin in Dubai has one of the most badass Mercedes CLKs we’ve ever seen. Unfortunately, while he’s been flying all over the world on business, the shop back in Dubai that’s supposed to have been completing his interior modifications has been sitting on their thumbs. We’ve got the story. We’re just waiting on Kevin getting a chance to kick some ass, collect his Benz, and get us some pictures.
I spotted this baja at QuikTrip this morning and – fortunately – he had a decal in his window pointing me to AzBaja.com to try and track him down. I don’t know who this guy is, or if I’ll get the interview, but I have faith in the good people of the VW community to either get me an introduction or show me something even cooler I can share with you.
Jon Rood is a good guy. He’s built a couple rally cars, raced a couple more, and been a solid, contributing member of the California Rally Series family. He also drives this badass, overland Celica. We should have this story scheduled very soon, as we just need to figure out which of the eleventy-billion pictures he’s taken over the years we want to include.
But wait, there’s more!
This coming Friday, we leave for London. The next couple weeks are going to be mad as we snap pictures, post updates from the road, and more. Here’s a quick look at our itinerary, but it’s since gotten even sweeter! Turns out our good friend – nay, brother – Dino (aka: DarkOne from 2GNT), who lives in Houston, Texas, will be in London on business next week, too!
We’re going to try to get together with Dino one night while we’re in London. He came to our wedding, we went to his, and we’ve been getting sloppy drunk together at the DSM Shootout and “Hammars” for the better part of a decade, now. How often do you get to meet up with a friend on the other side of the world like that?
It turns out Rich (aka: misterfixit from GalantVR4.org) is scheduled to be back in the UK from the Philippines towards the end of next week and we’re going to try to meet up with him as well! He’s done some absolutely incredible restorations of old Mitsubishis and bought my old RC10 R/C car from me a few months back.
Only 3 days left!
These next few weeks are going to fly past, but I hope you’ll join us for the ride. We’ll be meeting fellow gearheads from multiple countries in multiple countries. This is a vacation like nothing we have ever done before. Until then, keep going fast with class and press on regardless.
