Darren Thomas knows what’s up. He gets up and goes to work in the morning like the rest of us, but what sets him apart is that, after work, he puts in another 8-10 hours a day working on his race car.
This has been the way he’s done things more often than not since I first interviewed him back in 2009. And it shows. He’s turning consistent 7-second quarter-mile times in a methanol-burning beast of a DSM we’re calling “The Pale Horse” because it could very easily be mistaken for one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. We all find ourselves doubting the current project from time to time. As we continue learning our trades, our knowledge increases. This can lead to different perspectives and interests.
