[bd] When you say you received the car as a graduation gift, but ended up paying for it yourself, what do you mean by that?
[mm] Well, my parents financed the car, but after three months, I took over the payments myself once I started working. I still consider it a gift since they helped me finance it.
[bd] When the mod bug bit – it always does – where did it begin? Tell us a little bit about those first couple modifications and why you wanted them. What were they? Are they still installed? Why or why not?
[mm] It all started when I accidentally curb checked my OEM wheels. I hated the way they looked so I went to the Nissan dealership and ordered a set of Nismo wheels for my car. They were basically Gramlight 57c in bronze and labeled as Nismo. They looked awesome on my black car, but now it looked too high and I needed to go lower. So I purchased my first set of coilovers – K-Sport Pros.
I still have the coilover setup, but they have been rebuilt since. The wheels, however, I sold after I was finally able to purchase my all time favorites, which I have on the car now – Work VS-XX.
[bd] What’s your vision for the car? Beyond standing out, what are your performance goals, what are you trying to achieve – and how are you measuring your progress?
[mm] My vision for the car is to be an all around performer. Currently the car is making around 300whp at 8psi. The engine has slight head work and a completely stock bottom end. I plan to build another motor and turn up the boost.
I’m pretty happy with the car currently because it wins at shows and I do drive it long distance to out of state events. It’s very reliable and I have built it to be all around both in a straight line and in the corners. My goal within the next year is to make it a more dedicated track car and to show people that, even though it’s “just a Sentra”, it can hang with the best of them!
