One of the coolest things about working here at GBXM is getting to meet gearheads from all over the world. Today, we’d like to introduce you to Hans, who shares a little bit about his absolutely gorgeous 8th generation Mitsubishi Galant VR4. For those unfamiliar with the 8G VR4, the best way to describe it might just be 4-door 300GT VR4.
What is your name, location, and occupation?
Hans Norrgård, Lohja Finland, sales representative in a home appliance store.
Tell us a little bit about your vehicle?
Well, it’s a pre-facelift 8g VR4 Galant with manual gearbox. Mostly stock, for now, but it has TEIN adjustable suspension, OZ Ultraleggera (18×8) rims with Falken FK452 rubber, K&N air filter, Martelius custom-made front pipe and cat replacement, blue flame exhaust via Camskill, Ferodo brake pads, and a bigger intercooler.
Interior : Evo3 recaro front seats (with custom installed heaters), 4-point harness for the driver, pioneer DVH 4100 stereo and a separate 3,5″ display for it. Wooden panels painted to match rest of the car. LED dome lights.
Coming soon: GReddy profec boost control (used to have a manual boost screw but discarded it) and Evo 5 steering wheel.
Planned, yet to be financed: bigger brakes (brembo?), updated fuel pump, new suspension, programmable ECU. That’s what I can think of for now…
Why do you prefer the 8G GVR4?
In short, I just love it.
How did you come to own this vehicle?
I was looking for a new car, and I had my heart set on an S14A Silvia, however they are quite overpriced here, so I broadened my view and test drove a R33 Skyline GTS-T. I was so DISAPPOINTED in it (mostly the specific car, but I found flaws in its general design as well), so I broadened my views more. In the end, I also decided to go 4WD instead of FR (FF was NOT an option) since I was going to use the car all year, and a 300hp FR is not that practical in the winter. :)
Also, my brother owns a Legnum VR4 and I liked it, except I didn’t want an STW. He also used to own an Evo3, so we know Mitsubishis are high in quality.
Then, while searching for a new car after the botched R33 test drive, I found my Galant. Went for a test drive the next day and took it home.
How do you most often use this vehicle?
On a daily basis.
What are your 3 favorite things about your GVR4? Why?
Looks fantastic, torque (although there could – and will – be more of it) and durability (i.e. I’ve managed to blow the engine in three Fords).
What was the biggest obstacle you had to overcome with your Galant?
I lost my license for a year (whoops :D), so I had to decide whether to sell it or keep it in the garage for the time. I made the right decision and kept it.
What does being a gearhead mean to you?
Being interested in cars and machinery, also to know how to handle a screwdriver is implied.
Its a lifestyle, and a damn good one.
