Biting the bullet, admitting you can’t do without attempting to build an EV. Thats where I am.
I’m looking into a couple of options that appeal to me.
That is to say, a small light truck, or a small light 4dr sedan with late 80’s or early 90’s vintage (here we have a Mitsubishi Mighty Max and a Toyota Camry) If I where to choose a car it would most likely be a wagon.
There are distinct advantages and drawbacks to both which I am currently wrestling with. A light truck in my opinion could possibly be easier; the bed can be removed and battery pack installed underneath in between the frame, or you can take up half the bed and install the batteries inside it. In essence you’re dealing with one large battery pack and box. (trucks are set up to carry weight!)
In a car, you’re likely going to take trunk space, seat space and under the hood space. While this makes for a balanced vehicle it does make for a lot of work possibly cutting the floor and fabricating several battery boxes. (more or less complex than removing a truck bed ? I don’t know !)
What d’y’all think ? (wow, thats actually spelled correctly according to WP.)
Are there typically less batteries and lower system voltages in cars ? (for lead acids, 12 or 6 volt) making for a cheaper conversion ?
