Bart: Isuzu Addict – 1a
[bd] Clearly, this dude really loves him some Isuzu. While we’re working on Part 2, here’s some more details on the Troopers he’s owned – and still owns.
[bw] My first Trooper was a white 1991 that I rattle canned and turned into a desert wheeling machine. It was a great Trooper, but in the end, I wanted something more “perfect”. I planned to do a frame up build, and instead of sanding off the spray paint I figured it would be just as easy to find another Trooper with a straight body and factory paint, and do a body swap onto the restored frame. So I bought the blue 1990 with intentions to repaint it and set it on my original 91’s frame.
But, I ended up scrapping this whole plan when I found the nice, one owner, white 91 I drive now. It has under 80,000 original miles and is in great cosmetic shape. It is going to be my end all, be all, overlanding Trooper. I am almost done with the build, which includes OME HD shocks and springs, Indy4x HD tie rods, ARB bumper with Warn M8000 winch, completely restored interior, and my original Con-Ferr roof rack with a new LED light bar, General Grabber AT2s on some 16” Toyota steelies, and a slew of other little things. I plan to have this Trooper on the green at JCCS this September.
Also attached are pics of the first 1989 RS I bought, which was a total mess, both mechanically and cosmetically. It had a really shoddy repair job done and I found bondo all over. I subsequently sold it, and bought a better 89 RS from a fellow forum member up in Idaho. It needs a full restore, but it has a straight body. I plan to dig into it this winter.
