Earlier this month, we showed you what the Essen Motorshow 2006 looked like. Today, we’ll skip some years (four, to be exact), and take a look how the event has evolved. To give a few hints: more classic cars, less bikes, more Opel, more Irmscher, more US classics, and less European classics…
I always visit a lot of meetings and events every year. One of the things I find most interesting, besides the cars and automotive stuff of course, is how the event or meeting evolves over the years. You’ve got two sorts of events; the ones that get off on a rough start, but get better every year, and the ones that go off with a big bang, but get worse every year.
The Essen Motorshow is one of those events that has been around for quite a while, and really tries to make it interesting for every kind of visitor. There’s tuning, new cars, classic cars, bikes, shows, and a lot of cars you and I probably never will be able to afford. But that’s where they lose a bit of their focus as well; perhaps there is too much variety.
You’ve only got so much room, and the more different things you put in there; the more of your focus you lose. What was the main ‘attraction’ again? Was it the new cars? The shows? The classic cars? Or perhaps the exoticss? Nope, none of those. The main focus of the Essen Motorshow was ‘tuning,’ and that’s a bit hard to imagine if you look at all the other stuff standing around at the show.
But; it’s still a very unique show, and if you’re in the area; you should definitely visit it. Even if it’s only for once in your life, the ‘vibe’ there is quite unique. For the people that are interested; the 2012 edition of the Essen Motorshow will be on 1-9 December and the location is *obviously* Essen. Take a look for yourself at 2010’s Essen Motorshow, and let us know what your thoughts are!
